My work is abstract richly colored sculpture made of polymer clay. Polymer clay is a low temperature curing plastic clay. I work exclusively with translucent clay, mixing my own colors. Even the most saturated colors are translucent. When cured, polymer clay has the permanence and durability of acrylic paint.
I work palm-size, manipulating the polymer clay over and over with my hands and fingertips, immersed in the tactile connection. Modulating between saturated and muted color, the translucent forms of my work relate to simple elements in nature, like twigs, petals or stones, but ultimately, they become their own sensual species.
I have an enduring respect for the subtlety and power of limited scale. My work is small. Diminutive scale offers the feeling of timelessness and a sense of infinity.
