Itsuki Kaito (born in Sapporo, Japan in 1993) is a Kyoto based painter. Kaito is currently enrolled in the master course of painting at the Graduate School of Art and Design, Kyoto City University of Arts, and previously studied at Tohoku University of Art and Design.
In her paintings, Kaito creates mythological stories and characters for contemporary times, materializing the virtual world in which they exist, as paintings on canvas. These paintings attempt to revive mythological lessons lost by contemporary society, and contest that painting might wrestle formidably with the digital moment.
In 2017, Kaito had solo exhibitions at Mori Yu Gallery in Kyoto and Ns Art Project, Osaka, a group exhibition at Daikanyama Hillside Terrace, Tokyo, and was nominated for the Contemporary Art Foundation young artists award.
