Inventing the Truth

May 5, 2021 to May 29, 2021

Statement

“All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was.”

-Toni Morrison

What is the truth? Where does truth exist?
In a world in which we all fight for ownership of the same past, who owns the truth?
Truth is a form of palimpsest which ebbs and moves and re-writes itself.
More than ever, we feel a sense of urgency to be defined by race, sex, culture and economic status, as if that could get us closer to that which is true.
Our shared personal memories and collective history hold some fiction and some reality and the truth sits somewhere in between the many stories.
Perhaps the truth sits in the cacophony of all the silenced voices and lives amongst us being elusive as we try to catch it and make sense.
I sit here, as witness to my remembered truth as it changes and transforms minute by minute.
