Tetris Drawings and Other New Work

February 12, 2002 to March 9, 2002

Tetris Drawing #3 (detail)

"The drawings in this show are primarily two-dimensional, however the space revealed in them is decidedly not flat. In the Tetris drawings, I use ordinary, direct materials (transfer paper and ink) to render an apparently simple cellular structure, which unfolds spaces within the flatness of the paper surface. The expanded (and expanding) cells in these drawings, which seem to develop chemically or organically, are built one line at a time. Their free-form construction not only defines a space, but also describes movement through that space.
