Statement

Johannes Vermeer, the master of light, painter of domestic life, giver of life to “still life scenes,” has inspired me for many years. While living in New York, I visited his paintings often and decided to “give one” to my husband as a surprise for his birthday. I asked him to paint me an empty frame on a birch panel. He did. I painted The Milkmaid for him, and the idea for this series was born.
