I've begun printing tapestries using the Jacquard weaving technique, a method of printmaking with a computer. Unlike editions on paper, tapestries are quite durable. They can be hung easily, rolled up quickly in the event of a fire or eviction notice, used as a blanket when the nights are cold. I’ve noticed that the spontaneity of drawing in a Jacquard weaving would be impossible to recreate if you were weaving by hand. I feel that if one is using a tool, no matter how complex, the presence of the hand can always be found.
