Small scale pastoral paintings of Oregon landscape and seaside.

Barbara Stafford’s serene paintings are of the pastoral beauty of the landscape and seaside. The intimate paintings in the current exhibit at PDX illustrate Stafford’s skill in capturing the subtleties of atmosphere. Her oil paintings of the regional landscape not only capture its solid graded contours but also the range of light and feel of air.

For this particular body of work, Stafford began the paintings in the early hours of summer mornings. Stafford’s attachment to the region is apparent. It is the quietude and the solace of these particular places that draws Stafford here. The paintings in this exhibit are treasures, ranging in size from 5 x 7 inches to 7 x 11 and 8 x 10 inches.

Barbara Stafford studied painting at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. Stafford’s work has been exhibited regionally for the past decade and her paintings are included in the permanent collections of Kaiser Permanente, KFS Corporate, Library of Congress and Oregon Health & Sciences University.
