Dislocation
July 5, 2017 to August 26, 2017
A dislocation, or topological defect, is a re-arrangement that cannot be altered. As topology is the study of surfaces, I focussed on how once water flows across a surface, the pathways laid down continue to shape the next layers.
Using monoprint process, I transfer watermedia from a flat matrix to wood panel. Building up the color by layer captures traces left by the water as it moves across the surface. These forms both suggest a space and generate a type of map, recording the channels upon which the image is based.
