Lisa Lockhart

Statement

Some of my work I made in a dream and make when I wake up. Some of the work is made when I can't sleep. Some pieces grow over time in an intuitive, unconscious layering. My work may be linear in nature but I work in cycles - ellipses and spirals. I prefer a continuous evolution. My work grows out of a process of collecting, sorting, assembling, and rearranging.

Some supplies come from abandoned buildings, auctions, estate sales and our village dump. The history of an object interests me very much, especially obsolete or primitive tools and the stories they tell. I am the obsessive tinkerer in her workshop, assembling, carving, cutting and wrapping till a new object appears which provokes either personal memories or biographical sketches of people either real or imagined.
