For this exhibition, rather than his usual biting, text-laden works, Savinar has chosen to step back to create a more ethereal, completely image-driven exhibition. The show, entitled “I Wonder” presents a series of fantastical objects and their associated works on paper – all of which combine diverse scales of the real and the imagined world. Eating utensils that sprout vegetation, personal enemies tethered together, concepts for office towers and asteroids at rest all work together to fill out this intimate exhibition.
Savinar will be exhibiting a series of small-scaled, wall-mounted, cast bronze and lacquered wood sculptures and digital prints. And, once again rather than a single hand, Savinar has employed various architectural fabricators, photographers, graphic designers and foundries to assist him in the realization of these new works.
Tad Savinar has been a practicing studio artist in Portland, Oregon for forty years. He is the recipient of three National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, an Oregon Arts Commission Fellowship and was awarded the Governor’s Arts Award from the State of Oregon in1998. His work is included in numerous museum and private collections.
