What lasts?
I have considered this question for months. I think it’s in response to everything that is happening in the world right now involving the environment, politics, and wars.
We all experience the continuous light, shadow, and darkness that cycle through our hours, days, months, and seasons. The skies change and the sun, moon, and stars move, but they remain.
With each new day and new night a consistent pattern unfolds, but there is mystery in not knowing what the future holds. This opens up the opportunity to choose hope.
Light, repetition, and time. I’m drawn to these ideas in my work both through the materials and the techniques that I use. Transparent layers of cotton organdy fabric, the sheen of silk thread and shiny glass beads relate to light. The repetitive processes of folding, stitching, and tying knots become lines, patterns, and forms. Their numbers and collection provide a tangible sense of time.
