DANCE WITH INGRES.
Jean Auguste INGRES 1780-1867 French artist.
Everyday upon entering my studio they are there; Jean Auguste sits at my desk with the others: Goya, Cranach, El Greco, Delacroix, Piero della Francesca, Fra Angelico, Paolo Ucello etc... They are all there, smiling, encouraging me when I loose it or darting angry looks and insults when I don't take enough risks.
Last winter, to the music of Satie or Bach, perhaps it was Debussy, we invented (Ingres and me) a "pas de deux"... our little dance. With that was born a series of works, a sort of homage to INGRES whom Picasso called "notre Maitre a tous" (the Master of us all).
What idiocy to claim that these artists are dead!
