ONE STEP BIG SHOT: PORTRAITS BY ANDY WARHOL AND GUS VAN SANT
May 16 through September 5, 2010
Opening Reception: Saturday, May 15, 2010
These photographs are cut-up versions of polaroids which were created largely as records of people to be used in Gus’s film projects. For this show, they have been digitally reconstructed--cut up, taken apart and re-combined in uncanny, dreamlike musings on the multi-facedness of persona. At the same time, they destabilize the dialogue between viewer and image, challenging the essence of the photographic portrait, the subject as signifier for identity.
