Statement

These works, fueled by the pleasure I find in combining observation and imagination, start with the mysteries of mazes and mutation. They draw inspiration from the tradition of natural history illustration and the seventeenth century Cabinet of Curiosities. Referencing letterforms, puzzles, animal markings and body parts, they posit an interspecies morphing toward ideal form. Most of all, they are driven by a continuing fascination with the activity of reading and curiosity about the shifting boundary between abstraction and representation.
