In the original and longtime Nine Gallery spirit of experimentation, Ellen and Jerry will work on-site at the gallery manipulating large sheets of paper by folding, creasing and crumpling...pushing the structural limits of the paper...engaging the opportunities and limits of the paper's structural capabilities, as well as the resultant aesthetics...the manipulations giving the paper texture, dimension, shape, loft...too much handling and the weight of the paper itself sometimes working against the manipulation and form...the paper finding its own resting place...the sculpture's spine adding inner strength in support of outer fragility.

Jerry Mayer is a long-working public artist in this region who has completed commissioned artworks for Oregon Arts Commission, Regional Arts and Culture Commission (Portland, Oregon), Portland Parks, Sound Transit (Seattle, Washington) and various private organizations. He also has served as a Project/System Design Team member for Tri-Met (Westside Light Rail, Hillsboro, Oregon) and Sound Transit (Light Rail, Commuter Rail and Regional Bus, Seattle, Washington.) Mr. Mayer is a Nine Gallery founding member.

Ellen George is represented by Jane Beebe, PDX Contemporary Art. She also exhibits with Conduit Gallery, Dallas, Texas, and will exhibit this winter at Ida Green Gallery, Austin College and the Museum of East Texas. Ellen is one of Nine Gallery’s newest members.

Ellen and Jerry's collaborative approach is working side by side, with a creative process that focuses on the interplay of intention, spontaneous decision-making and chance.
