Mother of Pearl Paintings

December 5, 2001 to January 5, 2002

"These most recent paintings made of mother of pearl and lacquer combine my interests in Western painting and Asian decorative arts. The mother of pearl in these paintings has an associative meaning in addition to providing visual points of reflection and illumination. I like to think of DNA as fine strands of pearls. References to water and ocean life are present in some of these works; to make seaweed images out of shell seemed somehow to fit."
