Statement

These drawings seem to offer the possibility to serve as a connection from one thought to another. The drawings came from a desire to see a thing as a whole rather than to understand something by connecting its parts.

On a hike in the high desert mountains of Oregon I fell and hit my knee on a rock. For a brief time I felt excruciating pain and then numbness. I felt disconnected from my surroundings. As I lay there holding my knee, a feeling of peace came over me and a heightened awareness of the landscape. Returning from feeling disconnected, I wondered if it was possible to see a thing as a whole, even though I was a part of it. While this thought is nothing new, the feeling of having it in those moments of silenced pain made it even more real.
