A film, 7 minutes
Fallen uses the iconic imagery found in mythology and religion to create a modern myth. Presenting itself as a tale of creation, the film illustrates the simultaneous appreciation and paranoia of the technological age. The interest in forms both organic and fabricated is mirrored by a fusion of the contemporary with the ancient. This concept is best illustrated by the Machine, the product of a collaboration with designer Kari Merkl. The antiquated form of the Machine is in stark contrast to the modern nature of its material. This juxtaposition creates a displaced sense of time presenting the discovery of technology as a gift to humanity rather than a choice. The resulting encounter reflects the powerlessness the individual experiences as technology, society, and our environment continue to change.
Featuring the music of Ethan Rose's Ceiling Songs, Fallen is the latest in a series of collaborations between musician Ethan Rose and Ryan Jeffery.
