PDX Contemporary Art is a gallery of individuals. Each artist is distinct from the other, yet all exhibit a high level of craft. We will be showing work by gallery artists Arnold Kemp, Victoria Haven, Vanessa Renwick, Masao Yamamoto, Nancy Lorenz, Anna Gray + Ryan Wilson Paulsen, Adam Sorensen, Heather Watkins, James Lavadour, Ellen George, Elizabeth Knight, Megan Murphy, Marie Watt, Jacques Flechemuller, Barbara Stafford, and Bean Finneran.
Arnold J. Kemp is a visual artist, writer, and Chair of the MFA in Visual Studies Program at Pacific Northwest College of Art. He is also a former associate curator (1993 – 2003) at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Kemp was recently awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in Fine Art for 2012.
Kemp's work is currently on view at the [2nd floor projects] San Francisco exhibition HOW TO MAKE MIRRORS through June 6, 2012.
Vanessa Renwick is a film, video, and installation artist living in Portland, OR. Her work has been featured recently at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and Metz as part of the "Keep Portland Weird" exhibition. Her video installation "Medusa Smack" is currently on display as part of Disjecta's Portland2012: A Biennial of Contemporary Art.
Anna Gray + Ryan Wilson Paulsen are an artist duo whose work most often deals with the notions of reading and writing, as well as the connections those actions make to the world. Gray + Paulsen were recently granted a residency at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. They were also included in Portland2012: A Biennial of Contemporary Art and the 10th NW Biennial at the Tacoma Art Museum.
