Matt Bua 2001:

The Excavation Series

The Excavation Series began a few years ago when a group of small eroded metal objects were found on a Brooklyn rooftop. By taking these unknown objects and treating them as priceless artifacts in the way in which they are packed for shipping, mimicking the museums cavity packing style, a sense of importance is automatically instilled on the pieces even before their purpose was, are all questions brought up by the piece. As with the Hawaiian Excavation Series, the commentary on the constant erosion and decay of the present is brought into the forefront.

“Objects have memories too, sometimes much better than human”
