When he co-founded Blue Sky in 1975, Terry Toedtemeier was in the midst of a brief, intense investigation of the possibilities of infrared photography. Over the years, Toedtemeier has turned his lens on all sorts of subjects but we are especially fond of his early infrared experiments. This group of images is drawn from the work he made during that time, when he was interested in capturing gestures and exploring the human—and sometimes animal—figure. At times funny, at times lyrically beautiful, these photographs balance spontaneity against a formal compositional structure that has always been at the heart of Terry’s vision. In memory of Terry, we are exhibiting his early work for the month of April.
