Summer 2008, the Portland Art Museum presents the inaugural Contemporary Northwest Art Awards. Furthering the Museum’s 115-year commitment to celebrating, exhibiting, and collecting art of the region, this biennial awards exhibition honors emerging and nationally under-recognized professional artists living in the Northwest.

Mary Henry, James Lavadour, D.E. May, and Storm Tharp were also announced as finalists for The Portland Art Museum's Contemporary Northwest Art Awards.

"Art dealer Ruth Ann Brown of the New American Art Union announced the 10 recipients of a special artists' stipend project. Each artist will receive $8,000 --a $7,000 stipend plus $1,000 for art materials."-D.K Row, The Oregonian, October 10, 2007

"As part of the process to transform their iconic “Pyle” of mini-bikes into official public art, the Zoobombers have chosen two artists to help turn their visions into a reality."
-Jonathan Maus, BikePortland.org, December 14th, 2007

"I took it for granted until now, but Lavadour is a brilliant colorist. In these paintings, specifically the multi-paneled ones, he juxtaposes colors from different panels to dazzling, dramatic effect, stirring the eyes so much with activity and music that you feel you're watching a fireworks show in the heavens."
